Ivo obtained his MSc. Degree in engineering physics from the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2011. His MSc. Thesis entitled “New interrogation techniques for interrogation of fibre-optic Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) sensors” was performed with the Applied Optics Group at the Complutense University, Madrid, Spain. This work addressed the study of the fine tuning of the SPR plasmonic resonance to the target analyte as a label-free selective sensing configuration.
From 2012 until joining the PHOQUS project, Ivo worked as a research assistant at the Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit of INESC TEC, Porto, Portugal. During this period, his research activity was mainly devoted to the design, fabrication and characterization of metallic nanowire metamaterials, and their integration in fibre-optic platforms for sensing configurations with enhanced performance.
Role in the Project
In July 2014 Ivo joined the University of Dundee as a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher on the project PHOQUS – PHOtonic tools for Quantitative imaging in tissUeS. His work will involve developing fibre-based imaging technology to achieve resolution down to hundreds of nanometres, as well as optical manipulation through single-fibre endoscopes. This will entail exploring new imaging and trapping configurations using speciality optical fibres with very high numerical aperture.
