Sascha has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Medical Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. His thesis is titled “Auditory object recognition of normal hearing and hearing impaired listeners in virtual acoustic environments” and was carried out at the Laboratory for Experimental Audiology of the University Hospital Zurich, supervised by Prof. Norbert Dillier.
During his studies he was partially working at the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology, mainly on thorax phantoms for Electrical Impedance Tomography. As a part of his Master studies he carried out a project called “Visual light spectroscopy to measure oxygen saturation of hemoglobin in superficial human tissue” at the Biomedical Optics Research Laboratory of the University Hospital Zurich, supervised by Prof. Martin Wolf and Prof. Markus Rudin.
Role in the Project
Sascha joined the University of Dundee as a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher on the project PHOtonic tools for Quantitative imaging in tissUeS (PHOQUS). His work aims at reducing the influence of scattering on image degradation in light sheet microscopy through the use of self-healing, non-diffracting excitation and multimodal detection modalities. Finally, this will lead to insights in relative epiblast and hypoblast movements as well as cell ingression and movements of mesoderm cells in developmental tissue.
